Art On The Street 2013

This year's poster by Mariah Burton

This past weekend was Art On The Street in downtown Guelph and I'm happy to report that it went off without a hitch! I fashioned some new tent weights out of PVC piping for extra peace of mind, but luckily the weather behaved.  My biggest challenge was figuring out the table display, which usually looks like a bit of a disaster for the first hour of the show.

Leading up to the sale I'm always worried that I won't have enough to show, so I frantically make new work and all standards of cleanliness and organization go out the window.

What mess?
This year I focused my energy on making new cards and wooden pins and even converted an old suitcase into a displace case for them:

I didn't really get much of a chance to look at other booths, but my pals Monika Hauck, Mariah Burton & Lydia Nieuwenkamp were also selling that day.

Lil' Weez & my freshly made PS Guelph book!
Publication Studio first set up shop in Portland (OR) and has since fostered nine 'sibling' locations, most recently in Guelph.  Here's a little blurb on what goes on there:

"We print books on demand, creating original work with artists and writers we admire. We don’t just produce books, but form new communities through the shared experience of reading. And every book is lovingly made by hand....Each studio has their own flavour, and the focus of PS Guelph is to promote the intersections of the local literary, music and art scenes."

I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to create a logo for Guelph's location and really enjoyed the process of brainstorming and working with some of the members to tailor the design.

I tried to keep it as simple as possible knowing it was going to be turned into a stamp to be used on the freshly made books.  Here's the final design:

PS Guelph is located at Silence on Essex St.
