Guelph Night Market PART 2!

I'm excited to be part of the second installment Guelph Night Market, happening Wednesday February 10th. The event is taking place at the Ebar from 7pm-12am.  There will be lots of great vendors, food and beer.  There is an entry fee of $2 and they will also be collecting Canadian Tire money for the Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis.

I have a small painting currently hanging at Renann Isaacs Contemporary gallery in Guelph, as part of the annual 'RED' group show.  Each artist was to make something with red as the dominant colour in a 12" x 12" format.  I made an acrylic painting called "In the backyard of good & evil", featuring yet another girl with her cat. You can check out the show until the end of February.

Illustration for VICE

I was asked by my friend Jesse Ruddock to make an illustration to accompany her piece for VICE about Toronto based author André Alexis and his recent Giller Prize win for the novel, 'Fifteen Dogs'.  Not having read the his book, nor the article and with very little notice, I came up with this:

First draft.
I was relatively pleased with what I would consider a rush job, but VICE suggested I make a few tweaks and the result was this:

Final illustration

I personally like the dog on the head, but considering it was for VICE and all, I was happy to oblige!

You can read Jesse's piece here.

Screen Prints For Seth

I have been a fan of Seth's comics for years, so when he asked if I would screen print a few of his illustrations, I was beside myself with excitement...and sheer terror.  I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to my own work, so the idea of printing for Mr. Gallant brought my anxiety levels to great new heights.

           'Soul Mates' 2015  - Seth
'Love Birds' 2015 - Seth

The drawings he sent me were done in classic Seth form, beautifully simple and clean.  He wanted them printed in shades of grey, which I thought would be a relatively straight forward mixing process, but ended up to be a bit of a nightmare.

Who would have thought mixing greys would have been such a challenge?
Luckily the printing process went a little smoother.

Three of four layers printed.

The prints are currently showing at Renann Isaacs Gallery in Guelph, along with a lovely collection of his paintings.

Here's a frumpy photo of me in front of the prints at the opening.

Guelph Night Market

Guelph Night Market happened back in October and was an incredible success! Thousands of people circulated through a small room in downtown Guelph sifting through vintage clothes, baked goods, original art, magical gemstones and much more! I was there with my screen prints and though I felt mildly claustrophobic, I couldn't have been happier with the turnout.  Many thanks to Theresa, Emily and many others for organising such a great event.

It was packed to the brim all night!
Lots of hands in my patch pile!
I've heard whispers of another Night Market happening in February, but I'll keep you posted!

Graven Feather Letterpress Prints

Graven Feather is a lovely gallery & print studio in Toronto and they recently printed a limited edition series of letterpress prints showcasing the art of 7 artists and illustrators.  Below is the design I submitted for the series which is available for purchase through Graven Feather or my Etsy store.

Below is another illustration I made for an event that Graven Feather took part in called Surface.  Again, the design was turned into a polymer plate and hand printed by Pam & Erin at Graven Feather.

I also used the Snake Face illustration to screenprint on some tote bags which can be purchased here.

Survival Guide

I was lucky enough to be asked to design the cover and twelve spot illustrations for the University of Guelph's annual survival guide.  Can't go wrong with teal and orange!

Shirt design for Kreative Kontrol

Here's a t-shirt design I made for Vish Khanna's 'Kreative Kontrol' podcast.  I told him my concept and he sent me a list of random KK podcast related imagery which I then drew and superimposed onto his profile.

Original design mock-up.  Sadly, Vish vetoed the cat.
The shirts will be given to patrons of his show who are pledging $10/month or more to keep his show running.  Vish has interviewed an impressive cast of artists and musicians, including: Shary Boyle, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Steve Albini, Mac Demarco, Tim Heidecker & Thurston Moore, to name a few.  If you are interested in funding KK, or just want to own one of these shirts, be sure to check out his patreon page.

Girls Rock Camp Guelph!

I designed a logo for Kazoo! & artist/musician Steph Yates, who are in the process of getting a girls rock camp started here in Guelph. They are in the running for the Oak Tree grant and need public nominations! If you would like to support this amazing project, please visit:

Necessary Arts of Guelph have organised a group show of 6" circular works featuring over 40 local artists.  Here are the paintings I made for the show (sorry folks, they're already sold!):
